We are already 12 days into the new year. For many, the excitements and celebrations that were felt during the festive season is wearing off. There are those who are thrilled about the new year because they already have a lineup of activities and goals they will be working on. There are also some who have no clue what they want to do this year. Whether you fall in the category of the former or the latter, the good news is we still have eleven (11) months and nineteen (19) days to do something worthwhile.
If you have not made your New Year resolution yet, it's not too late. Let's dive right into what it is, why you should consider setting one, and how to go about it.
A New Year's resolution is a tradition in which a person makes a promise to do an act of self-improvement or something slightly nice, beginning from New Year's Day. The idea is that by setting a goal or making a commitment to change, the individual will be more likely to follow through and make the desired improvement. It is important to set New Year's resolutions for a few reasons:
It gives you a sense of purpose and direction for the upcoming year.
It allows you to focus on self-improvement and making positive changes in your life.
It creates accountability, as telling others about your resolution makes you more likely to follow through with it.
Setting small, specific and measurable goals and working on them can lead to a sense of accomplishment, boost self-esteem and self-confidence.
Working towards a goal can help to increase motivation and productivity.
It is always good to remind ourselves, however, that New Year’s resolutions don’t have to be serious, big, or set in stone. It's also perfectly fine if you fail to keep up with them. It is important to be kind and forgiving with ourselves, and to try again if we fall short of our goals.
With that said, look at point number 4 again and set some specific targets that you can follow through. Write those things down, and three months from now, revisit your resolution and check if you are still on track. Evaluate you list in the middle of the year to Check off the things you will have already accomplished from your list, you can then add new ones if needed, or reevaluate how best to complete what will have remained undone.
Feel free to visit this page as often as you need to remind yourself, or to just find encouragement. Well, happy New Year and get the ball rolling.
